Agri-environment scheme prescriptions and landscape features affect taxonomic and functional diversity of farmland birds

چکیده
Agri-environment schemes (AES) are a major conservation tool for protecting declining farmland birds in Europe. Most studies evaluate AES effectiveness on taxonomic diversity but there is knowledge gap about how affect functional responses. We the effects of different and responses open-land overall extensive cereal croplands Spain. Specifically, we analyse proportion food to shelter prescriptions landscape features (length field boundaries herbaceous crops) influence by comparing response bird AES-managed paired control fields. found that increased species richness Shannon whereas balanced (similar prescriptions) their abundance. with more also led diet plasticity wingspan birds. The all habitat specialisation fields remained unaltered focal variation prescription. This suggests application reached maximum these traits independently prescription types further landscape-level benefits promotion Overall, length while crops decreased them. Both variables showed non-linear relationships, fitting predictions from complexity-local hypothesis. Our findings indicate ways improve both traditional new relevant goals encourage evaluation monitoring.

Conservation of european farmland birds: abundance and species diversity
Farmland ecosystems have evolved through the development of agriculture, becoming almost uniquely characteristic plant and animal communities (Potts 1991). However, rapid changes in farming methods in the second half of the 20 century resulted in the partial collapse of this ecosystem (Potts 1997). Throughout most of Europe, farmland birds have declined as a result of simplification of farming ...

in fact, this study focused on the following questions: 1. is there any difference between the effect of functional/notional approach and the structural approaches to language teaching on the proficiency test of efl learners? 2. can a rather innovative language test referred to as "functional test" ge devised so so to measure the proficiency test of efl learners, and thus be as much reliable an...

Despite two decades of agri-environment schemes (AESs) aimed at mitigating farmland biodiversity losses, the evidence that such programmes actually benefit biodiversity remains limited. Using field-level surveys, we assess the effectiveness of AESs in enhancing bird abundances in an upland area of England, where schemes have been operating for over 20 years. In such a region, the effects of AES...

متن کاملLandscape constraints on functional diversity of birds and insects in tropical agroecosystems.
In this paper, we analyze databases [corrected] on birds and insects to assess patterns of functional diversity in human-dominated landscapes in the tropics. A perspective from developed landscapes is essential for understanding remnant natural ecosystems, because most species experience their surroundings at spatial scales beyond the plot level, and spillover between natural and managed ecosys...
